With a finely tuned European fashion and beauty aesthetic, Joshua Kogan brings his chic and evocative “glamour-reportage” photographic style to the world of luxury weddings and events.
A graduate of the University of Southern California, Joshua began his career as a gaffer and stills photographer on independant film and music video sets in Hollywood. He soon found himself shooting advertising for Guess Jeans and celebrity editorial for ultra-hip Detour magazine.
A lover of art, architecture, food, travel and history, Joshua followed his own love story, moving to Paris in 1999. Living and working in the fashion and luxury capital of Europe for the next 10+ years, Joshua honed his photographic style and further defined his romantic vision of fashion, beauty, and luxury. Within a few years he was working with some of the most dynamic fashion and beauty editors in Europe, shooting covers and glossy editorial pages for Harpers Bazaar, G.Q., Glamour, Flair, Marie Claire, Wallpaper, Vogue Pelle and Figaro Madame. Joshua’s commercial assignments and special projects include collaborations with Dolce & Gabanna, Armani, Gianfranco Ferre, Aveda, Salvador Dali Fragrances, Billabong Surfwear, Stitch’s Jeans, Levis Strauss, and the Acapulco Board of Tourism.
For 5 years, Joshua worked alongside the iconic designer Valentino, capturing the world surrounding the designer’s Paris fashion shows. This intimate social reportage celebrates the people and the pageantry that make the House of Valentino’s signature so alluring. For this project Joshua photographed some of the leading talents and personalities in fashion, entertainment, and media, including Anna Wintour, Mario Testino, Gwyneth Paltrow, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Ford, Elizabeth Hurley, Suzy Menkes, Hamish Bowles, and Naomi Campbell.
It was during his time in Paris that Joshua launched Studio JLK and began photographing some of the most exclusive weddings and events in France, Italy, Spain and Morocco. In the world of luxury weddings, Joshua is known for his unique “glamour-reportage” style of documentary photography, where beautiful light, soft colors and unexpected moments merge into a vibrant palette of raw emotion and natural beauty. Wedding and event clients hire the 17 year veteran for his instincts, experience, and resourcefulness, as much as they do for his layed back attitude and easy going personality.
“What I find so intriguing about weddings is how they bring friends and family together once again. There’s so much love, history and emotion at these reunions. It’s incredibly gratifying to document and share that with a couple and the people who mean the most to them.”
The Picasso family recently acquired a select portfolio of Joshua’s travel photographs for the family’s chateau in Normandy. Joshua was privleged to supervise the installation at the one and only Chateau Villers in France.
